Shakespeare Identifies TV Antennas Affected by USCG Safety Alert |

The United States Coast Guard has issued a Safety Alert stating that some Marine TV antenna systems may cause interference with some GPS receivers, resulting in degraded performance or position inaccuracy. Several TV antenna manufacturers and models were named in the announcement, but the Shakespeare SeaWatch® Style 2030 was listed erroneously in the original version of the Alert. Our engineers have had detailed discussions with the USCG, resulting in an updated announcement, posted December 16, 2002, that removed the SeaWatch 2030 from the list of affected units. The USCG Safety alert does apply to some units of Shakespeare Styles 2040 and 2050 SeaWatch® Marine TV Antenna Systems. Only 400 Shakespeare units are affected. Here are the date codes for the antennas that are subject to the Safety Alert:
Units that are NOT affected by the Safety Alert: Shakespeare SeaWatch® Styles 2040 and 2050 Marine TV Antenna Systems with manufacturing date codes other than those listed above are not affected by the Safety Alert, and the Alert does not apply to SeaWatch® Style numbers 2010, 2020, 2020-G, 2020-GE, 2025, 2030, 2030-G, or 2030-GE. What to do if you have one of the affected antennas At its option, Shakespeare will repair or replace any 2040 or 2050 antenna system bearing the date codes listed above. Owners of affected systems should contact Shakespeare Marine Customer Service Department toll-free at 1-800-845-7750 (ext. 1310 or 1320) for specific instructions on how and where to return the antenna. In all cases, the Power Supply for the 2040 and the Control Box for the 2050 must be returned, along with the antenna head units, in order to be processed. Shakespeare has asked its dealers and distributors to examine any unsold inventory and contact Shakespeare if any affected units are found.
